How to Upgrade Your Netbook's Memory From 1Gb to 2Gb of Ram

If you have started seeing at upgrading the Ram in your netbook to 2Gb then you have probably looked colse to at some forums and read user reviews and found that you are more confused now than when you started.

You might have seen terms like cl, 667 or 800Mhz and non-Ecc that made you wonder which type of memory that you needed. Well these numbers are all very important, and only obvious ones are compatible with your netbook. The best-selling and highest rated netbook memory is the Crucial 2Gb stick so I'll adress that singular brand, but this applies to all brands.

The first thing that you should know is that roughly all modern netbooks (well 95% of them along with Asus, Acer, etc) use the Atom processor which has a front-side bus speed of 667Mhz (for the N280, the N270 is 533Mhz). This is where the memory has to trip through in order for the processor to use it. This tells us that even if you get memory that is listed at 800Mhz it will not help anything, because in order to use it the computer has to underclock it to 667 (or 533)Mhz and some computers don't like to do this.

Another prominent thing to make sure is that the Ram you're seeing at is non-Ecc, and also of policy 200 pin So-Dimm. This basically just means that it will fit your netbook or laptop.

The third thing we need to look at is Cl, or cs latency. This is basically how fast the Ram itself can operate, or the delay time. The lower the cs latency amount the better. There are 2 top-selling types of Crucial Ram which you will probably see if you look it up and one is 800Mhz with a cl=6 while the other is 667Mhz with a cl=5.

Their prices are only a merge of dollars apart and most habitancy would get the 800Mhz reasoning it is faster, but no ifs ands or buts after the computer underclocks it to 667Mhz then the second one is faster because it has a smaller cs latency. That is the one I went with and I have had no problems, and I would say colse to a 50% improvement in speed and apps.

Now that you know which type of Ram to get here's a tutorial on how to install it.

Step 1: get the right Ram. Igot the Crucial 2Gb 667Mhz stick for from Amazon.

Step 2: turn off computer and remove battery.

Step 3: remove passage door to memory (mine had a small photograph of a ram stick on the door).

Step 4: push 2 small metal tabs away from memory stick

This will cause the memory stick to pop up:

Step 5: pull out 1Gb memory stick and replace with 2Gb stick. Make sure the pins are lined up (it will only go in one way). The Crucial sticker is on the bottom.

Step 6: Push Ram down until metal clips click, replace cover, re-insert battery and boot up computer. If you're running Xp then it will auto-recognize the Ram and no other steps are necessary.

Step 7: Once the computer is booted up hit (windows key+Pause) to bring up the theory properties box and check to make sure that the new memory is recognized.

If it does then you're done, if not you will need to re-boot while hitting F8 repeatedly to bring up the bios, then make your mind up the new Ram from the menu to make the computer identify it. Enjoy.

The black is then nicely contrasted by a strip of red that runs colse to the edges of the netbook. It is naturally one of the most well designed netbook. It is good to look at and fells absolutely sturdy. It also has a very impressive battery life. Its six-cell battery can last 9.5 hours on one charge. All in all, the Samsung N110 overall is one of the best netbook models in the store and best of all, is also very affordable. It currently retails for just colse to 9 each.

Big Screen Netbooks

The keyboard and screen size would surely be some of the biggest limitations on netbooks. Even the most hardcore of netbook fans would occasionally wish for a larger screen size (especially while watching videos/movies). Well the Gods have listened and there are now a concentrate of large-screen netbooks ready in the market. Many of these larger netbook models also come with larger keyboards and that is all the time welcomed!

One of my current popular big screen netbooks would have to be the Asus Eee 1201N 12.1-inch model. While it retains most of its netbook features, it does have some different specs/features. First of all this model runs on an Intel Atom N330 1.6Ghz dual-core processor and a Nvidia Ion graphics card. It has a 250Gb hard drive and 2Gb of Ram. One of the compromises made for this set of new specs is its battery life. This netbook can last up to 5 hours at one go, which is still pretty decent by any laptop standards. It is, of course, a miniature larger, weighing in at 3.22 pounds.

The upside of the larger Asus Eee 1201N is that is has a 12.1-inch Hd Led back-lit screen. It also has an Hdmi port that supports full Hd (1080p) video with 7.1 channel audio when it is connected to a Hdtv. Other neat features comprise Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity, a web cam and 802.11b/g/n wi-fi.

Another great big screen netbook is the 11.6-inch Hp Mini 311-1000Nr. It has a 11.6-inch Hd screen, 1Gb of Ddr3 Ram, an Intel Atom N270 1.6Ghz processor and runs on Windows Xp. It has a 6.25-hour battery life and is cheaper than the Asus Eee 1201N. This Hp netbook is great for whatever who is looking for an entry-level netbook with a larger screen. Then we have someone else animated laptop model, the Acer Aspire As1410-8414 11.6-inch Laptop. Acer did not label this model as a netbook, but it is as portable, affordable and as fun as a netbook model.
