Laptop Memory Upgrades - 5 Ways They'll improve Your Laptop

Laptop memory upgrades are just the ticket, if you want your laptop to run smoother and faster. The question with laptops is what we want to do with them (streaming video, watch online television, make our own dvd's, play war games-you know stuff that requires a lot of power) is often just beyond the power of the machine. So, sometimes your laptop contact is not all that it's cracked up to be. There's an easy fix for this, in most cases. And that fix is laptop memory upgrades.

Computers have two sorts of memories, the Ram, or random passage memory, and the hard drive. The hard drive is where your laptop shop your applications software and also your files. YouTube videos that you downloaded, pictures of your family you uploaded from your camera, the spreadsheets from your work, that proposal you were working on during your last flight-all that stuff is on the hard drive. When you decree to certainly look at the pictures from your trip to the beach last summer on your laptop, your computer goes to the hard drive and fetches the picture and reads it into the Ram. I'm sure you can see how a bigger Ram would be very useful. That's what laptop memory upgrades are all about.

1gb

There are other hardware components you could choose for upgrading, so why should you go with laptop memory upgrades first? Well, price for one. For about , you can add 1Gb of Ram to your laptop. And here's what that 1Gb will do:

Upgrading your laptop with just 1Gb of Ram will enhance the doing of your whole machine. Your programs will be able to run faster, because the computer won't spend as much time reading and writing files to the Ram from the hard disk. You can also run more programs at once without your laptop locking up. That's one great benefit of laptop memory upgrades.

You can accomplish faster processing times with your computer by adding memory that's faster. Ddr laptop memory processes twice as fast as single data rate. So, not only adding more memory, but faster memory as one of your laptop memory upgrades will have a huge impact in performance.

Adding memory will allow you to run hardware you couldn't before. Some new hardware requires more memory than the measly 512Mb Ram your laptop came with.

If you like gaming, you'll love the idea of adding laptop memory upgrades. Those periods when the games just stops while the computer is loading and computing will come to be a thing of the past.

You'll significantly increase your audio and video pleasure! Again, audio and video files are huge, and your laptop will be much faster at intelligent these files around, if you have more memory.

Laptop memory upgrades have come to be much less costly than in the past. Nowadays, you can add 1Gb of laptop memory to your computer for or even less. If you want to dramatically increase your laptop's performance, then you certainly need to consider laptop memory upgrades.

How to Upgrade Your Laptop's Memory

If you want to drastically heighten the overall speed of your laptop computer then you will need to consider a ram memory upgrade. Before setting out to upgrade your current memory you will need to do some basic study beforehand to insure you make the right purchasing choice. With so many type of memory ready it is crucial to purchase the right type and size for your laptops needs to gain the most benefit. By investigating your laptop by hand or via the manufacturers website you will be able to find the type of memory your laptop accepts as well as upgrade possibilities.

Finding out how much memory your computer laptop currently has.

1gb

There are 2 ways to check the amount of memory you have installed on your laptop. The quickest way is to check through the bios of your laptop. This is normally accessed when the laptop boots up and requires to press the thorough key to enter setup. Bios setup menus vary from laptop to laptop so just have a quick browse through the memory settings to get a clear idea on what your system currently has.

Another method to check your memory is via your system menu in the operate panel. This can be accessed if you have windows xp or later by clicking on the operate panel choice in the start menu then locating the system icon. From there you will find other specifications such as processor speed and memory currently installed.

How much memory is needed?

This all depends on your speed requirements. If you find your computer is not running as level as you would like then its advised to essentially duplicate the amount of memory by purchasing an additional one of equal amount. This will normally suffice for many and it is often rare to go added than this unless you have an older model of laptop.

Checking if there are added ram slots ready for upgrade & installation.

Underneath your laptop you will find a panel labelled in many cases with a limited engraving of a memory module. These panels are normally attached via 1 screw or clip function and can be removed to way the memory bay of your computer. If you are not sure where the ram panel is I guidance you consult the by hand of your laptop to find it's exact location.

Once you have way to the panel you will be able to tell if there are added slots ready to place your new ram or if you need to replace an existing module with your new memory stick. If there is a lot ready then simply install your new memory by diagonally placing the connector side into the thorough slot and lowering the rest of the ram module.

Choosing the right ram memory for your laptop

The foremost thing to remember when purchasing any sort of ram is that an upgrade can only be performed in pairs of equal amount or particular for 1 slot. As an example if you find you have slot taken by a 1gb memory stick and still have 1 slot ready you should install in that free slot a memory module of equal amount not greater or less equaling to a total of 2gb memory. You could do this an additional one way by removing the 1gb memory stick and placing 1x2gb memory leaving an additional one slot free in hereafter for an added 2gb stick. The choice is totally up to you. It is advised to get the biggest amount of memory you can purchase to save you cash in the long term so you do not need to remove and rid of old modules to replace with new ones.

Can You Run Files Automatically From Usb Memory Sticks

For many fellowships an speculation in branded flash drives for self-promotion is "Ok" in so far as it goes. The benefits of giving away memory sticks with your logo or brand printed on them and then giving them away are well known but does it make sense to give them away without development use of the data warehouse capacity that is an potential part of the stick?

More and more fellowships are pre-loading data on their promotional sticks because it's a great way to cheaply and nothing else but distribute large amounts of sales and marketing material. Lets face it if you've purchased memory sticks as a give-away it makes no sense to print, transport and distribute loads of physical sales brochures, press releases, copies of slides etc. Load them onto the memory stick. Pre-loading data makes economic and environmental sense and the more you load onto the stick the best the cost advantage case to buy the memory stick will be.

1gb

Pre-loading data does call for you to be organised. The cheapest way to get the data loaded onto the stick is while the manufacturing process but this means your data will need to be ready nearby the time your place your order with your supplier. If you can't get your data ready in time (and sometimes you're going to be reliant on 3rd parties, particularly if you're pre-loading speaker notes for a conference) then don't despair. It is potential to pre-load the data after develop just expect to pay a minute more for it to be done.

The maximum number of data you pre-load is minute by the number of warehouse space on the memory sticks you're buying. So if you are buying 1Gb sticks you could load up to nearby 950Mb of data. You won't have access to the full 1Gb because memory sticks need some space to generate the file structures and data tables for the data you're loading.

There are also practical considerations to think as well along with how you get the data to your victualer and you victualer gets the data to their factory in China. Small files can be emailed or Ftp'd but very large files may need to be supplied on a Cd or Dvd and then sent by carrier to the factory. This adds to the time you need to allow for branded memory sticks to be produced

Something else to think is either any of the files you pre-load onto the sticks should run automatically when the Usb stick used. This can be a great way of launching an application, presentation slides or movie files. It nothing else but will ensure that the user of the flash drive not only sees, but also is forced to interact with your content. Before you commit to the use of auto run files there are some leading things to consider:

1) Autorun files have to be loaded onto the flash drives while the manufacturing process.

2) Autorun files cannot be deleted by the user.

3) Autorun files can be considered "intrusive" and "annoying" because they get in the way of the general day-to-day use of the memory stick. Remember they the autorun application will have to load and inaugurate every time the stick is used and this can put citizen off using the memory stick to save and carry their own data on.

4) If used on enterprise network the autorun might not work because some fellowships don't allow autorun files (executables) to run on Pc's attached to their network.

5) If an autorun file is only convenient for Win Pc's (Xp, Vista, Seven etc.) then the content may not run on a Mac - appropriate testing is advised.

So in summary, branded memory sticks are a great promotional product, pre-loading data on the stick is an excellent and cost sufficient idea and in some condition autoruns add value but use them sparingly and be aware of the potential issues.

Virtual machine Memory

I love the idea of using one uncostly computer to setup multiple operating systems as virtual machines and testing server and workstation operating systems. However, the biggest concern with this scenario is the sheer cost of the memory required.

Hard drive space is not an issue. With 1Tb drives dropping to sub 0 Usd, drive space for.Vhd or virtual hard drives isn't a problem. However, what ordinarily happens is you leave maybe 2Gb of space for the host machine. Now the host machine is the first operating ideas you setup on to the computer. For example I may setup Microsoft Windows 2003 R2 as my host operating system. It is 64 bit and very stable. Then I setup software such as the free version of Vmware server. This forms the basis for all of my other operating systems.

1gb

Each guest operating ideas then becomes a new computer. They can and are most useful when installed at the same time to see how they interact with each other. Say I want to see how to setup and test a network of 3 servers and 2 workstations, then I can setup 3 guest server operating systems and 2 client workstation operating systems and run them all at the same time... Assuming I have enough memory... This is the catch.

You do not need as much memory in a test scenario as you do in real life, but you also do not want the ideas to run like a dog either. For example if I had 2 domain controllers running Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 and gave them 1Gb of memory each, then installed an additional one version of Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 and transfer Server 2010 mailbox, hub transport and client access server roles and gave the virtual machine 6Gb of memory, and installed two machines running Windows 7 expert with 1Gb of memory each then I would need at least 12Gb of memory all up.

Some test environments may test even more servers and therefore need even more memory. Recently Kingmax and Kingston have come out with 2 x 4Gb Ddr3 memory modules for only 9.00 Usd. This means if my motherboard supports 4 memory slots, I can setup 16Gb of Ddr3 1333Mhz memory for my test server for only 0.00 Usd. An absolute agreement inspecting what you will or could be running with this memory.

I have seen some Gigabyte motherboards supporting 6 memory slots and capable of supporting 24Gb of memory. Now that would make a great virtual machine combined with these cheap large capacity 1Tb and 2Tb hard drives and a descent quad core Cpu!

How to Upgrade Your Netbook's Memory From 1Gb to 2Gb of Ram

If you have started seeing at upgrading the Ram in your netbook to 2Gb then you have probably looked colse to at some forums and read user reviews and found that you are more confused now than when you started.

You might have seen terms like cl, 667 or 800Mhz and non-Ecc that made you wonder which type of memory that you needed. Well these numbers are all very important, and only obvious ones are compatible with your netbook. The best-selling and highest rated netbook memory is the Crucial 2Gb stick so I'll adress that singular brand, but this applies to all brands.

1gb

The first thing that you should know is that roughly all modern netbooks (well 95% of them along with Asus, Acer, etc) use the Atom processor which has a front-side bus speed of 667Mhz (for the N280, the N270 is 533Mhz). This is where the memory has to trip through in order for the processor to use it. This tells us that even if you get memory that is listed at 800Mhz it will not help anything, because in order to use it the computer has to underclock it to 667 (or 533)Mhz and some computers don't like to do this.

Another prominent thing to make sure is that the Ram you're seeing at is non-Ecc, and also of policy 200 pin So-Dimm. This basically just means that it will fit your netbook or laptop.

The third thing we need to look at is Cl, or cs latency. This is basically how fast the Ram itself can operate, or the delay time. The lower the cs latency amount the better. There are 2 top-selling types of Crucial Ram which you will probably see if you look it up and one is 800Mhz with a cl=6 while the other is 667Mhz with a cl=5.

Their prices are only a merge of dollars apart and most habitancy would get the 800Mhz reasoning it is faster, but no ifs ands or buts after the computer underclocks it to 667Mhz then the second one is faster because it has a smaller cs latency. That is the one I went with and I have had no problems, and I would say colse to a 50% improvement in speed and apps.

Now that you know which type of Ram to get here's a tutorial on how to install it.

Step 1: get the right Ram. Igot the Crucial 2Gb 667Mhz stick for from Amazon.

Step 2: turn off computer and remove battery.

Step 3: remove passage door to memory (mine had a small photograph of a ram stick on the door).

Step 4: push 2 small metal tabs away from memory stick

This will cause the memory stick to pop up:

Step 5: pull out 1Gb memory stick and replace with 2Gb stick. Make sure the pins are lined up (it will only go in one way). The Crucial sticker is on the bottom.

Step 6: Push Ram down until metal clips click, replace cover, re-insert battery and boot up computer. If you're running Xp then it will auto-recognize the Ram and no other steps are necessary.

Step 7: Once the computer is booted up hit (windows key+Pause) to bring up the theory properties box and check to make sure that the new memory is recognized.

If it does then you're done, if not you will need to re-boot while hitting F8 repeatedly to bring up the bios, then make your mind up the new Ram from the menu to make the computer identify it. Enjoy.

What is the Best Laptop Memory - (Ram)

If you have ever been stuck with a slow laptop, you may have tried to upgrade the memory to give you a nice doing boost. Memory or Ram plays a very prominent role in a laptops performance, so it is significant that you get sufficient as well as fast memory to make your laptop run smoothly. Therefore, here is a concise guide to show you how to settle on a new laptop with the excellent number of memory for your computing needs.

To buy a new laptop with the right number and speed of memory that will suite your needs, you will need to think two factors. The first and most prominent is the number of memory the laptop has installed. This will be measured in Gigabytes (Gbs), where a typical laptop will have anywhere from 1Gb to 4Gbs of memory.

1gb

If you only plan to user your laptop for office programs or surfing the internet, 1Gb of Ram will be sufficient to ensure your laptop is fast and smooth. If however you want to multitask and use the programs above but also use chat programs such as Skype or Msn messenger while listening to music and or watching movies, you should be seeing at 2Gbs of Ram to make sure your laptop will run smoothly.

Those of you that will want to play games or use arduous programs like video or graphical editing might want to think 3Gb - 4Gbs even though you might be able to get away with 2Gbs. If you do go with 2Gbs you might need to upgrade to more memory later on as new programs will use more Ram as technology advances.

You can get more than 4Gbs of memory, but you will struggle to use all of it at any one time so buying more than 4Gbs will be a waste of money. Most manufacturers try to sell you more memory then you will ever use to try and get some more money out of you. All the time remember that adding more memory only speeds up your laptop to the point where the programs you run have sufficient memory to use. Once this point is reached, adding supplementary memory will have no follow on performance.

The other factor you must think is the speed of the memory which is measured in Megahertz (Mhz). Today's speeds hover anywhere between 667Mhz and 1333Mhz. Memory speed is far less prominent as it only plays a small role in determining a laptops overall doing so try to get memory that is as fast as you can find, but genuinely do not pay ridiculous sums of money just to get memory that is a few hundred Mhz faster.
